Project 2008

SUMMARY

Design competition sponsored by the city of Chicago. Waste receptacles constructed of reclaimed waste bicycle components to promote recycling efforts within the city. Design "weaves" discarded 26" bicycle tires (otherwise unrecyclable) to form tubes that can be used as trash barrels. Tires are cut so they can be woven and then fastened together with pop rivets. Trash can lid is made from side walls of various sizes of car tires.

This project was selected as a finalist and 3 prototypical receptacles were built for exhibition.
